• NO FADE

  Coils heat in use, and hot coils lose their edge. Modern competing platforms can set a lower power level, but that is a fixed throttle position, not cruise control. Octane regulates each flipper independently and in real time, so the thousandth flip of the night lands with the same force as the first. Always. Over- specified coils give the thermal headroom to make this a reality.

• MECHANICAL SIMPLICITY

  Pinball machines typically monitor the plunger with an end-of- stroke switch. Octane removes it entirely. A moving plunger generates a voltage in the coil itself, so the coil reports its own position. Octane reads that back-EMF signature hundreds of times per flip. This is more sensitive than any mechanical contact, with nothing to wear or foul. Fewer parts to fit, and fewer to fail. Also backwards compatible with existing mechs.

• TUNABLE

  The current limit is not a fixed value. Octane drives it dynamically from a 12-bit DAC with update rates in the range of microseconds, allowing for arbitrary profiles. This means one coil is able to reproduce almost any flipper feel, from soft and forgiving to hard and fast. Not simply a power level, but detailed control of how the flipper feels through the stroke.
