Playfield

Fingerprint: Playing cards and castle: Two oversized playing cards standing in middle showing crowned kings-queens against flat blue stepped castle wall backdrop, white-capped pop bumpers with yellow starburst 100 medallions clustered across upper third, grinning orange-haired jester on left slingshot, red-haired jester holding spread fan of cards on right, vibrant magenta-pink background, blue-lit plastics, candy-coloured electro-mechanical, fairy-tale carnival theme

Distinctive

The two oversized playing cards standing in the middle of the playfield, each printed with a crowned king or queen figure, set against a flat blue stepped castle wall - it reads like a giant hand of cards dealt onto a cartoon fortress. The white-capped pop bumpers with yellow starburst '100' medallions clustered across the upper third are the other memorable mass of white-and-yellow discs. A grinning orange-haired jester head is printed on the left slingshot plastic and a red-haired jester holding a spread fan of cards on the right, framing the lower playfield. Blue-lit plastics and pink printed field make the whole surface read as candy-coloured rather than realistic.

Setting

  • Flat magenta-pink printed field

  • Yellow-gold plastic arch rails across the top corners
  • Brown lower apron area around the flippers

Other Small cartoon playing-card and jester motifs repeated on the upper plastics
Full description

A tall electro-mechanical playfield seen through glass under coloured cabinet lighting, which washes the plastics in pink, green and blue and throws a bright cream-yellow glare band across the upper third. The printed art has a vivid magenta-pink background with a large stepped blue brick castle wall or fortress drawn across the centre, its battlements printed as flat blocky steps in pale blue with darker blue mortar lines. Two big playing-card illustrations, each showing a crowned royal figure in red, green and white robes, stand upright side by side in the lower half, framed as if part of the castle scenery. Flanking the lower playfield are two jester or clown figures printed on the slingshot plastics: an orange-haired grinning man in green and orange on the left, and a red-haired jester holding a fan of cards on the right. The upper playfield is crowded with white-capped pop bumper bodies carrying printed starburst '100' medallions, red cylindrical targets, yellow arrow inserts, small round white drop-target or bumper caps, and a row of red pegs. Numerous jumpers and rollovers are lettered, and two yellow-gold plastic arch rails curve around the top corners. Two flippers sit at the bottom below a brown outlane apron.

Fingerprint: QUEENS title with sword-and-arrow graphic, five queen figures isolated in heart and cloud panels, jester-king holding sword at center, oversized playing cards fanned.

Distinctive

Five separate queen figures, each isolated inside its own large heart or cloud-shaped panel cut into a castle wall, rather than one big central figure. The huge tall yellow gradient 'QUEENS' lettering with a sword-and-arrow graphic above it is the most eye-catching element. Oversized playing cards fanned along the bottom by disembodied hands, including a Jack, King and three Queens. A cartoon jester-king in a pink and green tunic stands dead centre holding a sword.

Full description

A backglass in a painted comic-book cartoon style, dominated by a deep magenta-purple sky over a grey crenellated castle wall. Top left-centre carries the title: a small white cursive 'Bally' above a large yellow arrow-and-sword shape, with 'QUEENS' in enormous tall, bulbous yellow-to-orange gradient letterforms with a black outline. Five queen figures are set into heart- and cloud-shaped vignettes against the wall. Upper left: a pale-skinned woman with a tall white beehive coiffure and a small gold crown, wearing an orange/red robe, chin resting on her hand. Middle left: a blonde crowned woman with winged shoulders, one hand raised. Centre right: a red-haired woman in a low-cut bodice with a yellow crown holding a fan of gold coins. Right: a red-haired woman in a white ermine-trimmed pink gown and small crown, arms outstretched. Bottom centre: a brown-haired male jester/herald in a pink and green tunic with an orange eagle crest and a crown emblem, holding a sword and gesturing. Along the bottom edge, four pale hands fan out oversized playing cards (Q, J, K, Q of mixed suits) among pink and blue billowing shapes. Top right: 'GAME OVER' in red beside a torn flag, '30' in white above the title, and a five-window mechanical score reel reading 2 1 4 7 0. Lower right reads 'BALL IN PLAY' in white. Light reflections streak across the glass.
