Fingerprint: Arched chrome CASINO title with rainbow-coloured numerals 1–7 beneath, left ladder of coloured tiles 100–900, right ladder striped red-white-yellow bands 00–90, large dark mirror-panel centre with scattered red card-suit pips, bottom card-table scene showing four gamblers and champagne bucket, heavily worn varnished surface, casino nightclub aesthetic

Distinctive

The most memorable feature is the pair of vertical number ladders framing the glass: a left column of coloured tiles reading 100 up to 900, and a right column of red, white and yellow bands reading 00, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90. Second, the huge dark rectangular mirror panel in the centre, now blotchy and worn, with red card-suit pips scattered across it. Third, the arched chrome CASINO title with a rainbow row of oversized numerals 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 directly beneath it. Fourth, the bottom card-table group of formally dressed gamblers around a green baize table, with a champagne bottle in an ice bucket. The whole piece is in rough condition, with crazing, scuffs and large flaked areas of lost paint.

Full description

A heavily worn, varnished casino-table backglass set in a chunky mid-brown wooden frame with a black inner fillet. Across the top a white and green header carries the word CASINO in large chrome-and-gold serif block capitals with a black drop shadow, arched over a green band holding a row of big brightly coloured numerals 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 in red, yellow and sky blue. Down the left edge runs a narrow ladder of coloured square tiles, each carrying a white number: 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900. Down the right edge is a tall stack of alternating red, white and yellow bands, like a striped chimney or roulette-wheel column, each band numbered 00, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 in blue, white or yellow. A green arc between the centre and the right column carries the vertical word MILLION in white capitals. The whole centre is occupied by a large dark rectangular mirror/score window, its surface mottled grey-black with peeling paint and scattered small red card-suit pips. Along the bottom a painted card-table scene shows four figures: a man in a white peaked cap and green waistcoat, a dark-haired moustached man in a green waistcoat holding cards, a blonde woman in a red dress with a red hair feather, and a woman in a pale hat. A champagne bottle in an ice bucket and tall flutes sit at bottom right.
