Clown

Vertically-mounted pinball playfield under glass, dominated by a red, gold and white carnival-war theme. The top third is a crimson stage curtain with a scalloped swag, scattered yellow, blue and green five-pointed stars and large flat oval 'balloon' spots in yellow, green and pale blue. Two round pop bumpers sit left and right of centre, each a pink cone with a white-and-pink flower cap. Centre playfield carries a large spinner with a white sunburst medallion, ringed by loose rectangular letter tiles and several round red star-shaped bumper caps. Below and right of centre is a huge chunky logo reading CROM in gold block letters with red shading, overlapped by a red-and-white curved rail. Painted figures include a harlequin jester in a red-and-white diamond costume at lower left, a grinning clown face with a red pointed hat right of the logo, a khaki-uniformed soldier with a helmet and a long knife or rifle at lower right, and striped red-and-white legs of a partly-hidden acrobat at mid-left. Two red flippers and a small round A marker sit at the bottom, with three white instruction cards on the apron. Green and red light reflections streak the right-hand side of the glass.

A painted, cartoon-style backglass set inside a red-orange wooden cabinet frame with a wide bevelled border. Across the top an arched banner of circus bunting in red, white and blue triangles carries one huge word, CLOWN, in block capitals with a thick black outline, red drop shadow and a yellow-to-cream gradient fill; small five-pointed stars in yellow, cyan and red scatter around it. The centre of the play area is dominated by a large grinning clown head rendered as a big oval mask: white face, orange-red hair spreading to both sides, a bulbous red nose, arched blue eyebrows, a wide open mouth showing rows of squared yellow teeth and a dark red tongue. Behind and around the mask is a fairground scene of striped circus tents and pavilion roofs in red, white, blue and yellow. On the left side a cluster of coloured balloons rises beside a striped tent and a small clown figure; on the right side a striped booth with a yellow arrow panel sits above a printed score readout. Four mechanical score reel windows run around the art: two along the top flanking the word CLOWN and two along the bottom, the players numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4 in yellow. A bottom apron band shows a row of yellow ovals containing 1 2 3 4 beneath blue lettering.

Illuminated backglass dominated by a huge grotesque clown head dead centre, filling almost the whole panel. The clown has chalk-white face paint, a bulbous round red nose, an enormous red-lipped grinning mouth with big yellowed block teeth, wide staring eyes, a yellow hat with a red band and pompom, and a small red tuft of hair; his head tilts back, staring out at the player. A curved banner across the top carries the word CLOWN in huge puffy white-and-pink bubble letters outlined dark, with small white and orange stars around it and a fan of pale pink rays radiating down behind the hat. Amber digit displays ring the art: two at the top left and top right, one at mid-right, two at the bottom corners, with a large orange 1 and 2 beside the top pair. The background is a dim circus scene in warm reds and oranges: balloons and small onlooker faces at the left, a square panel of four coloured match targets right of the head, small glowing round lamps low on the right. Dominant colours crimson red, hot pink, white, amber orange; glossy airbrushed cartoon art with heavy outlines and a star-speckled sparkle finish.
