Full description

A tall rectangular electro-mechanical backglass in a wooden frame, painted in a bright mid-century showgirl style. Across the top, small yellow block capitals read GOTTLIEB'S above a large flowing script title, Dancing Dolls, in red with a heavy yellow outline and white drop shadow. Below the title a fan of yellow, orange and red rays bursts upward from the centre against a dark blue, star-speckled backdrop. A large rectangular mirror with rounded top corners occupies the upper centre, bordered by an arch of round yellow light bulbs and flanked by dark red theatre curtains. Four showgirls surround it: two at the left edge and two seated at the right on a pink and grey oval platform. Lower centre stands a blonde woman in a red sequined leotard with blue glittery long sleeves, holding an open paper across her chest. At bottom left is a green triangular POINTS panel studded with red, blue, orange and cream discs; at bottom right are seven drop targets over a grid of printed number windows, edged by vertical lettering.

Distinctive

The unmistakable centrepiece is a huge empty rectangular stage opening framed by a red curtain valance and a yellow bulb arch, so the backglass has a gaping blank hole in its middle rather than artwork. A solid yellow POINTS panel studded with coloured discs sits bottom left and a dense red numbered scoring grid fills the bottom right. The title Dancing Dolls is rendered in dramatic slanted white script with a heavy red shadow across the top of a starry blue sky.

Vintage pinball backglass with a midnight-blue starfield background and pale blue searchlight beams fanning down from the top edge. Across the top, small yellow capitals read GOTTLIEB'S above the main title Dancing Dolls in huge slanted white script with a crimson-red drop shadow. The centre of the glass is a large empty rectangular cut-out framed like a stage proscenium: a red scalloped curtain valance, a yellow arch of bulbs, and pale blue-grey silhouetted audience heads along the lower edge of the opening. Five showgirls flank the opening - three on the left standing on a yellow oval spotlight platform in green, pink and flesh-toned sequined leotards with feathered headdresses, and two at the right, one in a green sequinned costume with blonde hair and one in a bright yellow ruffled dress with orange hair and a towering yellow feather plume. Bottom centre is a large blonde woman in a sparkly crimson sequined leotard with pale blue feathered shoulder frills, smiling at the viewer. The lower left quadrant is a solid yellow POINTS panel headed POINTS in red letters on a white arched ribbon, filled with two rows of large coloured circles in red, orange, green and light blue, and carrying a red rectangular plaque with white cursive lettering. The lower right quadrant is a red scoring grid of white-bordered boxes with numbers running from 900/90 down to 100/10 and 00, flanked by a seven-step ladder of red circles marked 7M down to 1M.
