Fingerprint: Long wooden shuffleboard table in steep perspective with dark blue rail, blonde woman in lime-green top and white shorts at far end, blonde in magenta bikini at right holding green puck, oversized illuminated score panel with 100,000 to 900,000 grid beneath chevron marquee, DOUBLE-SHUFFLE title in maroon block letters, crowd onlookers in checkerboard recreation hall

Distinctive

The most memorable element is the enormous varnished wooden shuffleboard table slicing diagonally across the whole picture, drawn in strong perspective with a dark blue rail, maroon skirt panels and a pale playing surface marked with printed numbers. It is flanked by two women in swimwear handling the pucks: a blonde in a magenta bikini top and blue skirt at right, and a blonde in a lime-green top and white shorts at the far end. Above the table sits an oversized illuminated score panel, two rows of rounded number windows counting 100,000 up to 900,000 beneath a strip of green, cream and maroon chevrons and a blue MILLION box. A cluster of spectators in coloured shirts and yellow, red, blonde and brown hair crowd the bottom left corner, mouths open as if shouting.

Full description

A painted mid-century rec-room scene in steep one-point perspective: a green-and-cream checkerboard floor recedes to a blue back wall, and a long varnished wooden shuffleboard table runs diagonally from the lower right foreground to the upper left. Across the top, in a white-bordered blue-outlined panel, the title DOUBLE-SHUFFLE appears in tall condensed maroon block capitals, above a marquee strip of green, cream and maroon chevron panels ending in a blue box reading MILLION. Below sit two rows of rounded score panels: 600,000, 700,000, 800,000, 900,000 above, and 100,000, 200,000, 300,000, 400,000, 500,000 below, each in a differently coloured rounded frame. At upper left a circular cream-and-gold medallion carries a blue ribbon banner reading D. GOTTLIEB & CO. / MFRS. / CHICAGO ILL. In front of it a blonde woman in a lime-green top and white shorts leans over the far end of the table beside a dark-haired man in a maroon shirt. At right a blonde woman in a magenta bikini top and blue skirt holds a green puck; below her a dark-haired man in a yellow shirt and maroon trousers reaches for a red puck. A crowd of five more onlookers in red, blonde and brown hair fills the lower left. Glossy varnish reflection streaks the lower left quadrant.
