Dragonette / 4-Belles playfield

Playfield Dragonette

  • teal green
  • cream
  • red
  • gold

Fingerprint: Dragonette, geometric arrows on nested chevron stack, eight large numerals on stepped arrow tails in red-cream on gold-green, three red-capped pop bumpers in shallow triangle centred under cream starburst, teal-green background with cream-cherry-red-gold, compass-like numeric array down both lanes, tired condition with scuffed plastics

Distinctive

The whole art scheme is built from hard-edged geometric arrows rather than a scenic landscape: a nested chevron stack down the centre and eight large numerals on stepped arrow tails flanking it, each numeral red with a cream outline on a gold-and-green tail. Three identical red-capped pop bumpers form a shallow triangle at the top, the highest one centred beneath a cream starburst. The lower apron is unusually text-heavy, with two separate pale-blue rules cards plus a central arrow telling players the flipper buttons are on the side of the cabinet, and a small QR code stuck beside the coin door. Condition is distinctly tired: plastics are clouded, the wood rails are scratched and greyed, and the printed artwork shows scuffs, rub-through and grime along the ball tracks.

Setting

  • Fully abstract painted backdrop — no scenic horizon. teal-green field overlaid with radiating cream, gold and red arrow and chevron shapes pointing toward the upper playfield, with scattered cartoon figures set into the arrow pockets rather than any landscape or interior scene.

Symbols

  • Numbered red arrows 1-8 with cream outlines
  • Cream starburst behind the top centre bumper
  • Nested chevron stack down the centre lane
  • Circular target hole ringed in gold at mid-field
  • Triple chevron arrows printed on the lower apron
  • White adhesive instruction cards
  • Small qr code label near the coin door
  • Round lane guide posts with cream plastic rings

Notable shapes

  • Tall central diamond of nested arrow chevrons, eight stepped numeral tails forming a wide v down both sides, a cream starburst at top centre, four-lane chrome guide bank above the flippers, and a low rounded plastic apron lip.

Art motifs

  • Repeated arrowheads and nested chevrons, starbursts, concentric rings around every pop bumper, big red numerals on stepped tails, and small speech-caption boxes printed beside the figures.

Pop bumpers
Three pop bumpers, arranged in a triangle: one at top centre and two flanking it lower left and lower right, each with a red translucent cap over a cream body ringed with concentric gold circles.
Slingshots
Two roughly triangular slingshots with red rubber and plain cream plastic bodies, sitting just inside the upper flipper area either side of the centre lane.
Upper playfield
Arc of cream and gold chevrons behind the three bumpers, a curved chrome guide rail, two narrow vertical ball-guide channels at the top corners, and printed caption boxes beside the corner figures.
Apron and lower playfield
Pale blue-green apron carrying white printed rule cards headed '5 balls' and '5 cents', a 'dragonette' score-replay card, a central 'flipper buttons on side of cabinet' caption between two white flipper buttons, and lower-edge warnings 'no wagering', 'no prizes' and 'minors not permitted to play this game'.
Who and what
Kind Description
Other A single large female cartoon figure in the upper-left quadrant, seated or leaning beside the number-1 arrow, drawn with a large head, dark upswept hair and a light dress; flat black outlines with simple cel-style shading.
Other One male cartoon figure in the upper-right quadrant beside the number-5 arrow, wearing a brimmed hat and a light jacket, drawn leaning forward with exaggerated limb proportions.
Other Several smaller cartoon figures distributed through the middle and lower arrow pockets around numbers 2, 4, 6 and 7 — small, flat, comic-strip style human and creature characters in profile, each tucked inside an individual arrow tail rather than sharing one scene.
Other One seated cartoon man in the lower centre near the 'to score / 5 points when lit' area, drawn in a red outfit with a light face and dark outline, positioned just above the flipper apron.
Other One or two small four-legged cartoon creatures near the bottom-centre starburst and around the 'no wagering' field, rendered as simple flat silhouettes in dark ink on the green ground.
Full description

A late-1960s electro-mechanical pop-pinball playfield, photographed whole and flat-lit against a dark ground. The painted wooden deck is dominated by a teal-green background with cream, cherry-red, gold and black accents, and a fan of radiating arrow-head shapes carrying the numerals 1 through 8 down the left and right lanes. Three round pop bumpers with tall translucent red caps sit across the upper third, flanked by a curved metal ball guide rail and a wire-frame return lane. Down the centre is a tall cream-and-red diamond of arrow segments with a circular target in the middle, then a cream shooting-lane area with a red banner, a bank of four chrome lane guides, and two white flipper bats at the bottom. Two pale-blue apron cards print the rules, with black instruction text. The cabinet sides show heavy scuffing, chipped paint and dulled wood, and the plastics are hazy and yellowed.

Down the left side, seven white scroll panels labelled 'FACT NO.' cascade diagonally, each with a red or green number: 100,000, 200,000, 300,000, 400,000, 500,000, 600,000, then 700,000, 800,000 and 900,000 running left-to-right along the top. Centre-left a blonde woman in an off-the-shoulder blue top, red polka-dot skirt and red shoes leans back laughing, with a scarlet-and-green parrot on a perch beside her. A trench-coated man in a tan hat and blue trousers crouches at a brick arch aiming a pistol while holding a paper.
