Fingerprint: Tropical island canoe: Towering red canoe-shaped centre ramp studded with nine round turquoise-green glowing inserts stacked like lily pads, shield beneath painted with dollar signs and 200, enormous dark-green palm fronds closing in from sides, two enormous grinning tiki-style carved mask faces with thick red lips at lower corners, comic-strip white caption block upper left reading CARNIVAL, hand-painted cartoon style, jungle leisure

Distinctive

The single most memorable feature is the towering red canoe-shaped centre ramp studded with nine round inserts glowing turquoise-green like a stack of glowing lily pads, sitting over a shield painted with dollar signs and the number 200. Second is the framing jungle: enormous dark-green palm fronds that close in from both sides, punctuated by two enormous grinning tiki-style carved mask faces with thick red lips at the lower left and lower right corners. Third, the comic-strip style white caption block stamped into the artwork at the upper left, COMPLETING CARNIVAL / QUALIFIES SAN DIEGO FOR ... CARNIVAL, which makes the artwork look like a panel from a 1950s adventure comic. Fourth, the little bathing figure sitting in a tin tub of suds at mid-left, and the rope-hung lantern and plank jetty across the top.

Full description

A brightly coloured tropical-island pinball playfield, hand-painted in a comic cartoon style with heavy black outlines. Dense dark-green palm fronds and jungle leaves frame the whole lower half, with carved red-and-orange tiki-style mask faces with huge grinning lips in the bottom left and bottom right corners. At the top a wooden dock or jetty with red-brown planks and posts runs across, backed by a red-roofed palm-thatched hut and small canoes; a rope-hung sign and lamp posts sit over it. The centre is dominated by a tall red canoe- or shield-shaped ramp outlined in yellow, carrying nine round inserts that glow turquoise-green in a stacked chevron, set over a cream shield printed with dollar signs, the number 200 and the word UP. The metal playfield is criss-crossed by wireform ramps, a red wireform loop at the right, and yellow triangular slingshot bodies either side of a round amber kicker medallion above the centre drain. A bleached-white foam splash surrounds the left ramp, and small white starburst inserts scatter over the mid-field. Along the bottom black apron strip the words LEFT PADDLE and RIGHT PADDLE are painted, with WHEN FLASHING in yellow above a red circular target and two grinning cartoon faces, one blue and one yellow. A caption block in the upper-left reads COMPLETING CARNIVAL / QUALIFIES SAN DIEGO FOR ... CARNIVAL.

Full description

A dark, near-black backglass with turquoise-blue palm fronds framing all three edges, drawn as flat outlined silhouettes curling in from the top, left, right and bottom. Across the upper left, a huge block word GRANNY in fat yellow-to-orange gradient capitals with a dark blue outline, slanted slightly upward, with the smaller yellow words and the Gators beneath it in sweeping cursive ending in a long underline flourish; a small TM sits at the lower right of the script, and a small cursive company wordmark in a yellow lozenge sits at the very top edge. Upper right is a round yellow medallion framed by a braided rope-style border, containing an elderly white woman in a pale blue wide-brimmed hat and glasses, white hair, a pale blouse and a string of beads, aiming a long double-barrelled shotgun out to the left with a determined scowl; behind her in the medallion stand a green alligator and a coiled green snake with a yellow belly. Lower left, a brightly coloured macaw-like parrot with a red head, blue and green wings and a yellow-orange breast perches on the top of a cream instruction card printed with a column of score values and a two-line message. The large central rectangular area is plain pale grey-lavender with no art.
