Distinctive

The memorable centrepiece is a photorealistic autumn painting of a red wooden sawmill or grist mill with a steep gable roof, framed inside the cartoon-bright yellow and green backglass like a picture hung in a toy shop. Wrapping over the top of it, eight oversized playing cards numbered 1 to 8 fan out across a sky-blue and green banner, with Millions at the left. The scoring numerals are unusually specific: six white ovals up the two sides reading 100 000 up to 300 000 on the left and 900 000, 800 000, 700 000 on the right, and a further three ovals 400 000, 500 000, 600 000 along the bottom beside GAME OVER. The bottom edge carries a rainbow fan of numbered scoring segments from 00 to 90 with a gold star in the yellow segment, bookended by THOUSAND.

Full description

A square, portrait-format painted backglass set in a chunky varnished wood frame with a black inner rebate. The background is a bright lemon-yellow field overlaid with a small green chequerboard pattern, capped by a sky-blue band across the top. Across that blue band sits a green stripe carrying the word Millions in white, and eight tilted playing cards, each with a white border, a coloured inner panel and a large numeral: 1 red, 2 red, 3 red, 4 green, 5 red, 6 red, 7 red, 8 red. Below sits Williams in blue cursive script, and then the huge title JIGSAW in slanted slab-serif capitals, cream-white letters with red interiors and a black outline, backed by a small green triangle. A round yellow badge with a dark rim is printed at the top right. The centre holds a rectangular, black-framed pastoral painting of a two-storey red-brown timber mill with a steep gabled shingle roof, standing amid autumn foliage, a small stream, a bridge and a flagpole bearing a red, white and blue flag; thin bare-birch-like trees rise behind it and a large orange dahlia-like bloom sits low on the left. Down each side of the painting are three white ovals, outlined in blue, stacked with red numerals: 100 000, 200 000, 300 000 on the left and 900 000, 800 000, 700 000 on the right. Along the bottom, three ovals read 400 000, 500 000, 600 000 in red, with GAME OVER in yellow italic capitals to their right, and a row of coloured fan-shaped segments numbered 00 to 90, flanked by THOUSAND at each end, one segment carrying a gold star.
