Fingerprint: KING REX, two Egyptian pharaoh figures flat-1970s-poster-style arms-raised worship either-side white SPECIAL-WHEN-LIT pedestal above, black seven-glowing-round-inserts spelling KING top-row REX bottom-row, four white pop-bumper-caps red-sunburst-ribs diamond-arrangement around, plain golden-yellow lower play-area void, two green obelisk-shaped OFF-KICKER posts, small white kicker-lane inserts (10 and 1000), hieroglyph-motif fan top arch, ancient-egypt archaeology-kicker theme

Distinctive

The centrepiece is a pair of dark-skinned Egyptian pharaoh figures painted in flat 1970s poster style, arms raised in worship either side of a white pedestal reading SPECIAL WHEN LIT, directly above a black panel of seven glowing round inserts spelling KING on the top row and REX on the bottom. Four white pop-bumper caps with red sunburst ribs form a diamond around them. The whole lower play area is an unusually plain unprinted golden yellow with just two green obelisk-shaped OFF KICKER posts, which reads as a large empty void between the flippers and the artwork. Full description

Translucent backglass in a heavily chipped turquoise-painted wooden outer frame, bare wood showing through at the worn corners. Inside, a thin band of dark green and black horizontal stripes runs across the top and again along the bottom, framing a mottled pale mauve, pink and sandy-tan field. The left third is dominated by a vertical reddish-brown wood-grain column bearing two small red-brown outline drawings of standing Egyptian figures in profile, with a line of small lettering beneath them. Overlapping this column is a large frontal pharaoh bust: a golden-tan face with dark outlined eyes and brows, a blue-and-gold horizontally striped nemes headdress with a cobra headband, and a short false beard. On the upper right a long green-outlined recumbent big cat or jackal lies on its belly with a human figure in a blue kilt draped face-down across its back, and a small yellow bird hovers above. Beneath the animal, four squat jars in blue, orange, black and green sit in a row on a shelf. Lower right are three large canopic jars, turquoise and blue-green with black and gold banding, with dark tops. Frieze bands of tiny standing Egyptian figures run across the top and bottom edges between blocky green and tan architectural shapes.

Fingerprint: 'KING REX' down stepped pyramid crowned by red-faced pharaoh, white-helmeted winged soldier impaled through torso, Egyptian hieroglyphs above, orange-faced screaming soldier below, bare-shouldered woman over treasure chests, severed arm and striped hat floating, cartoon-pulp style.

Distinctive

The KING REX title is lettered vertically down the face of a white stepped pyramid that is itself crowned by a red-faced pharaoh head, rather than sitting on a horizontal banner. A bizarre tableau fills the middle: a white-helmeted winged soldier is simultaneously being stabbed by a spear from the left and impaled through the torso by a khopesh sword from the right, while his severed arm and a striped conical hat float separately below. The mechanical reel window has been art-painted with a small ankh-and-pharaoh emblem and shows the digits 2 0 7 9 0. A screaming orange-faced soldier in a red fez-like cap with a black-and-teal striped cone behind him anchors the lower centre, and a bare-shouldered brown-skinned woman looks out from behind open treasure chests at lower left.

  • Olive-green ground plane
  • Two flat orange pyramids at upper right
  • Palm tree silhouette at far right

Tall portrait backglass in a heavy dark green/teal speckled outer border, painted in flat angular cartoon art on a mustard-ochre and olive desert background. Upper left is a white stepped obelisk/pyramid bearing a red-faced, black-haired Egyptian-style head with a white-and-black striped nemes headdress and gold disc at the crown; across it, tall condensed orange letters with white outline read KING above REX. Beside the head, a cursive signature logo reads Bally. Upper right a horizontal black reel window shows five white number cards, 2 0 7 9 0, with a black horizontal bar and an ankh-and-crowned-scarab motif at its left end; above it, two rows of Egyptian pictographs (crown, chalice, bird, crescent, spiral, scarab, eye of Horus, ankh, jackal, quail chick) run across the sky, with two flat orange pyramids and a palm at far right. A flaming orange sun disc reads GAME OVER in white.
