Distinctive

The single most memorable feature is the pair of symmetrical pin-up women in the upper playfield, drawn in 1950s cartoon style with bright red hair, kneeling nude on the beach behind a chequered ball trough, framing the central SPECIAL WHEN LIT medallion. Close behind, the whole upper half is ringed by nine numbered mushroom pop bumpers (1 red, 2 red, 3 red, 4 blue, 5 blue, 6 blue, 7 yellow, 8 yellow, 9 yellow) set on coloured rings against a chequered background. A third striking element is the mid-field target row under the block-lettered red word POINTS, and the unusual wire-gate drop-target cages around the B and C roundels. The 100,000 WHEN LIT starburst disc and the pair of 500,000 WHEN LIT arrow banners in the lower half complete the layout.

Full description

A 1960s-era electro-mechanical playfield photographed head-on in a wooden cabinet, with eight coloured mushroom pop bumpers and round plastic bumpers crowded across the upper half. The backdrop is a flat cartoon tropical beach in teal, sand and pale blue, with a chequered multi-coloured ball-trough running round the upper arc. At the top centre a red-rimmed circular medallion reads SPECIAL WHEN LIT, flanked by four nude pin-up women in two pairs, drawn with red hair and pale skin, kneeling and leaning over one another in symmetrical groups. Numbered bumpers 1 through 9 sit on the left and right arcs, each on a coloured ring. Mid-field is a row of five recessed targets under the red block word POINTS, flanked by red A and D roundels. Below sit a raised 100,000 WHEN LIT disc, two wire-gate drop-target banks around red B and C roundels and 50,000, and a lower apron with FLIPPER lettering, a cursive company logo and small print. Glass reflections of red, blue and green light streak across the playfield.

A mid-century pinball backglass set in a plain light-wood cabinet frame. The top third is a bright blue sky with fluffy white clouds and a pale blue-and-white striped circus tent at the far left. Overlaid at top left is a dark red circular disc carrying a small cursive maker word above the title MARBLE QUEEN in slanted cream lettering; a curved yellow banner studded with pink and white light bulbs sweeps from the disc to the right, ending at the word MILLION in large purple block capitals.
