Mercury / Rocket

A painted backglass set in a light honey-coloured wooden frame with a wide bevelled inner border. The scene is a deep navy-blue sky scattered with white stars and small fluffy clouds, crossed by a broad pale-blue comet trail. Across the top, a curved green band with a yellow rim carries white lettering: a small cursive Genuine above the large block word MERCURY. Below it a white oval badge, outlined in red and blue, holds three coloured discs reading 1 (red), 2 (white) and 3 (pink), with the word MILLION in red capitals arcing beneath. Around the badge are small wedge-shaped value panels in different colours, each carrying a number: 900.000 on a blue-and-red panel at the top right, 700.000 on a yellow panel right of centre, 500.000 and 600.000 on green panels across the middle, 400.000 on a red panel left of centre, 300.000 on a white panel, 200.000 on a yellow panel and 100.000 on a green panel at the lower left. Lower right is a long red, white and yellow striped rocket with a yellow tail fin, angled steeply up to the right, and a green ringed planet sits near the bottom right above a dark silhouetted crowd of heads and raised arms along the bottom edge.

The centre of the piece is dominated by a huge black, red and yellow rocket climbing diagonally to the upper right, its white-hot exhaust plume spreading down-left. Smaller rockets are scattered: a red-and-white finned rocket at upper right, a slim red-and-white one mid-left, an orange-and-blue rocket at left, a yellow ball-like rocket with a trail, and a red star with a tail. Eight coloured arrow-shaped plaques carry point values: 100 000 (green), 200 000 (yellow), 300 000 (orange), 400 000 (magenta), 500 000 (green), 600 000 (green), 700 000 (yellow), 800 000 (red). Lower right holds a green ringed planet, a blue-and-yellow banded planet, and rounded lavender, orange, yellow and white clouds. The art is flat, bold airbrushed/poster comic illustration with heavy black outlines.
