Fingerprint: gottlieb's picnic 2-player title, crowd of cartoon park-goers on sunny green field including two handstanding women at left and balding white-whiskered man in brown suit at right with fan of papers, oversized white PICNIC banner, mechanical number drums, bright hand-painted cartoon style, green grass, blue sky, dominant reds and yellows

Distinctive

The single most memorable feature is the crowd of cartoon park-goers mid-game across a sunny green field, including two girls doing handstands at the left and a balding, white-whiskered man in a brown suit at the right holding a fan of papers. A large white picnic banner billows across the upper right with an enormous red 'PICNIC' on it, staked to the grass like real bunting. Mechanical roll-over number drums showing 1 0 3 glow inside chunky red and blue plastic-framed windows low on the glass, framed by a purple and marbled pink cabinet surround.

Full description

A bright, hand-painted cartoon backglass for a two-player skill game, framed by a wide purple and mottled pink-and-grey border. The scene is a summer afternoon picnic in a park: green grass, blue sky and water at the horizon, a row of leafy trees, and many children and adults playing outdoor games across the middle band. At the left two young women in shorts do handstands and cartwheels; near the centre a red-haired girl bends forward and other girls and boys dance, skip or swing; at the right an elderly man with white whiskers and a bald head in a brown suit leans in holding papers. A flat red band runs along the bottom with white 'BALL IN PLAY' text and an arrow. Two mechanical score windows with roll-over number drums, red-framed on the left and blue-framed on the right, sit low left and low right, each topped by a numbered ball-in-play circle. Dominant colours are green, red, yellow and blue.
