Distinctive

The whole playfield is dominated by one enormous coiling black-and-orange serpent with a red gaping mouth on the right lane, its body looping around the bumpers. The playfield is half-swallowed by a plain black protective board, so only the upper two-thirds of the wood and its art is visible. The apron edge carries the name Frankie in flowing grey script. Three pink-red round targets and a fan of shark-fin triangles form a distinctive row across the middle. Orange-and-black striped wings fill both top corners like a pair of flared fans.

Full description

A solid-state electro-mechanical playfield, photographed from directly above, with the lower half of the wood covered by a large black protective board edged in red and brown pinstriping. The exposed upper playfield is a dense airbrushed fantasy/under-sea scene: a huge black-and-orange coiling serpent or dragon winds across the whole field, its head lunging down the right-hand side with a red open mouth, and orange-and-black striped wing or fin shapes flare at the very top corners. Two white pop-bumper caps with red-and-yellow starburst decals sit high in the middle, flanked by clear rectangular light boxes. Below them runs a row of three round mushroom targets with pink-red caps, and a fan of red-and-white triangular shark-fin targets pointing upward. The centre carries concentric gold and black circle motifs, plus printed round bumpers marked KICK and a cluster of small yellow ring targets. Two plain cream rubber flippers and a green circular 20 insert sit at the bottom of the visible wood. Dominant colours are black, orange, gold and red. A white service card on the black cover reads R. Hankin & Company, Lawrence, Australia, Game Shark, with a Hankin script logo, and the apron below is printed Frankie in grey script.

Full description

A photographic backglass with a dark navy-blue starfield background and a decorative border of pink, white and black zigzags running round all four edges, punctuated by small pale square corner tiles. Down the left side are four oval yellow-framed windows, each ringed with white and black shark teeth, each holding a mechanical digit reel window; to their right are small red player numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4. The centre of the art is a surreal yellow-and-red illustration: a helmeted human figure in a glossy red spacesuit sits astride a yellow motorcycle-like machine with a fat white knobbly tyre, arms flung wide, grinning, while red-suited, helmeted figures with flowing capes fly outwards behind it. Six flat yellow-green sharks with red open mouths and white teeth fan out below them, jaws agape. Behind the top figure is a large red-and-yellow sunburst made of angular yellow rays. Top right carry two blue seven-segment style windows reading 02 and 00, labelled CREDIT and BALL IN PLAY. Text HIGH SCORE sits beside the third reel. At the bottom, in bold white capitals, is HANKIN, and below the glass a gold plaque reads SHARK, 1980, LIMITED EDITION, 2K PRODUCED, with a handwritten-style signature. Palette: navy blue, yellow, red, black.

Full description

Dark navy-black backglass framed by a bunting border of red, white and blue triangles, with a white disc emblem in a red block at each corner. Four black score windows run down the whole left side, each ringed by a salmon-pink oval lined with jagged white teeth so every window reads as a shark mouth; a large red numeral 1, 2, 3 or 4 sits at the right end of each. Arched across the top centre is the title SHARK in heavy angular block capitals, cream-white with red inline and dark drop shadow, backed by a red-and-orange sunburst of radiating triangles. At centre a figure in a yellow-gold suit and rounded diving helmet with a flame crest sits arms flung wide on a red and gold pedestal, ringed by rising pale bubbles. Four grey sharks with white bellies, black eyes and gaping red mouths circle the pedestal. Two slim red-suited figures on small grey discs flank the centre. A pale teal tentacled mass with one orange-ringed eye spreads behind the title.
