Distinctive

The memorable element is the huge diagonal red-and-white title lettering, 'SLUGGIN' CHAMP', slanted upwards to the right over a packed grandstand, with a small black cursive word tucked above it. Second, the two oversized cartoon ballplayers charging across the lower half — one mid-stride in a grey uniform with a red cap and red-striped socks, the other a crouching catcher with a cage-style face mask and a raised glove. Third, the symmetric city-name pennant columns flanking the whole playfield, pale green on the left and dark red on the right, plus the row of seven circled numerals above a nine-panel score ladder running 100,000 to 900,000 under a navy MILLION arrow. Fourth, a yellow starburst with red RBI letters sitting on the right of the infield.

Full description

Backglass in a bright red-orange wooden frame, painted in flat mid-century comic/poster style. Sky-blue background with soft white clouds across the top third. Across the very top a row of seven white circles each holding a large numeral (1 red, 2 dark blue, 3 orange, 4 blue, 5 red, 6 green, 7 purple), and to their right a navy arrow-shaped banner reading MILLION in white. Below runs a staggered grid of coloured score panels: 100,000 on dark blue, 200,000 orange, 300,000 cream, 400,000 navy, 500,000 orange, 600,000 green, 700,000 purple, 800,000 red, 900,000 yellow. Down the left edge a column of pale yellow-green ribbon pennants lettered with city names, headed by NATIONAL LEAGUE; down the right edge a matching column of dark red pennants lettered with other city names, headed by AMERICAN LEAGUE. The centre holds the title, black script over huge slanted red capitals with a white keyline. Behind the title is a crowded ballpark grandstand in maroon and cream, with a green flag on a pole and a tiny fielder on the grass below it. The lower half shows a green outfield and pale sand infield with two oversized baseball figures: a batter in a grey uniform and red cap lunging forward mid-stride, and a catcher at lower left in a face mask and cap, glove raised. A yellow starburst at right reads RBI in red block letters.
