The dead centre of the glass is dominated by a huge stylised sunflower with a dark maroon eye-like centre, which doubles as the sunburst behind the towering orange-red STEEPLE-CHASE lettering. A row of eight numbered racing silks (1 to 8) in alternating red, yellow, green and dark blue hangs from a gold Millions banner across the very top. The whole piece is bookended by two descending columns of boxed thousands numerals, 900 down to 100 on the left and 90 down to 00 on the right. The bottom edge is a strip of seven arched chestnut horse-head portraits, each named, from Swaps through Citation to Equipoise. A yellow sunburst spike under the title completes the composition.

Across the top a golden-yellow banner carries a flowing cursive word reading Millions, with eight numbered racing silks hanging from it on a blue sky background: red 1, yellow 2, green 3, red 4, dark blue 5, yellow 6, red 7, green 8. Below, a large stylised sunflower with a dark red centre and yellow petals stands centre, flanked by two crests: a horseshoe on a shield at left and a round green-and-gold medallion at right. The main title is tall, slightly arcing condensed capitals, orange-red with a heavy black outline and a pale cream shadow: STEEPLE-CHASE, with a small cursive Millions printed above it. Down the left edge, under THOUSANDS in a black banner, a column of boxed numerals reads 900, 800, 700, 600, 500, 400, 300, 200, 100; the right edge has a matching THOUSANDS column reading 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 00. The centre shows five galloping thoroughbreds with jockeys in red and green silks crossing a white rail, and a sixth loose horse running at right, against green fields, dark pine trees and a small blue flag. The bottom strip has seven arched horse-head portraits labelled SWAPS, BROKEN TENDRI, NASHUA, DEVILRESS, CITATION, FIRST EDITION, EQUIPOISE.
