Tales from the Crypt

Full-length dark gothic-horror playfield, unlit glass reflecting a lit room. A colossal grinning skull with long flowing white hair dominates the lower centre, its teeth flanking two pale cream flipper bats, with a small red-and-black creature or mask figure sitting inside its open mouth; a broad crimson red apron with a long central slot runs beneath it. The middle of the field is taken by a huge grey stone wheel or vault door divided into labelled wedge segments radiating from a small central medallion, ringed by blue flame or water artwork. Up the left side a diagonal run of five white circles with red outlines each carries one letter, spelling G R Y P T. A tilted white panel reads DOUBLE JACKPOT, and to its right a yellow rectangle reads LOCK 1, with green, red and amber insert lights scattered around. The upper third is a chaotic bone-white and tan graveyard of scaffolding, girders, coffins, skulls and a huge open red-lined maw or funnel, with a red circular target at left and a yellow-and-black striped arrow. Bottom left and right corners hold two red-and-black cards with cream lettering, a large embossed DATA EAST badge sits dead centre on the apron, and cream rules cards flank it. Colours are predominantly black, blood red, bone white and tan, with blue flame and yellow inserts.

The lower half is a crowded montage of smaller painted figures: a dark-haired woman with her mouth wide open screaming at lower centre, a man in a white shirt beside her, a blonde woman inside a gold-framed inset panel at lower left, and further small faces and bodies packed into the lower right among green foliage. At left a blonde woman in a black polka-dot bikini top brandishes a knife, and below her a woman in black-and-white striped lingerie. Style is bold, heavily outlined, lurid comic-book illustration in red, black, cream and blue.
